Apricot, Banana And Cinnamon Porridge Baby Food Recipe
Homemade Apricot, Banana And Cinnamon Porridge Recipe for reusable food pouches by Little Mashies
Why is apricot a great baby food choice for reusable food pouches?
Apricots are a very nutrient rich fruit for babies. They contain beta carotene, vitamin C and lycopene and also provide a small amount of iron. Apricots can act as a gentle natural laxative and support healthy digestion.
They also add natural sweetness and flavour to otherwise bland foods. Apricots are delicious mixed through yoghurt for breakfast or blended into porridge. If you have never tried roasting apricots before pureeing them, it is worth experimenting. The flavour becomes deeper and sweeter and the whole family tends to love it.
Ingredients
1 cup oatmeal
1 banana
1/2 cup apricots, pitted and diced
3 cups water
Instructions
Step 1: Bring the water to a boil in a medium pot. Add the oats and stir. Reduce to a simmer and cook for around 20–30 minutes until the oats are soft and most of the liquid is absorbed. Quick oats will cook faster than traditional oats.
Step 2: Place the diced apricots in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Allow them to soften for 10–20 minutes.
Step 3: Add the cooked oats, soaked apricots and banana to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.
Step 4: If preparing in bulk you can freeze the puree in ice cube trays or spoon it directly into Little Mashies reusable food pouches for storage in the fridge or freezer.
Step 5: Label and date your homemade pouches so you know when to use them. Little Mashies pouches include a write-on panel on the back for this purpose.
Step 6: To clean your reusable food pouches you can watch the cleaning guide here. The curved design allows food to rinse out easily under running water and the pouches are dishwasher safe.
