For Baby Led Weaning and Older Kids

For baby led weaning you skip the baby food puree altogether and start with large (2 finger sized) pieces of the food. In this case you would serve finger shaped pieces of apple to your baby, it's actually easier just to give your baby a peeled apple, cut in half (and baked or steamed). For apricots if doing baby led weaning I would do the same. I'd peel them, cut them in half, take the seed out and cook them well. We would of course do this on our Little Mashies sucky platter! So from 6-9mths of age foods should be the size of about 2 fingers so that the baby can pick it up and self feed.  Banana's work best if they are fat fingers, otherwise they have a tendency to break off in the babies mouth and you don't want that!
How to start baby led weaning
From around 9mths with baby led weaning you chop the food very small (to avoid choking) about the size of 2-4 grains of rice. It's a small piece so if they swallow it whole they wont choke. In traditional baby food recipes this is the stage that you mash food so it has a little texture. At around 12mths of age in baby led weaning it goes up to bite sizes (and this is the same in non baby led weaning kids), about finger nail sized pieces. I'd feel fine about giving squashed apricot pieces at this age. Around 18mths you can offer your little one larger serves agian (so a whole apple or apricot or banana for example) so that they can learn to take smaller bites themselves, to chew, and to swallow.

Why is apple a great baby food choice?

Apples are great choice for one of your babies first fruit purees. They are full of nutrients and rich in two types of fibre – soluble and insoluble. They are easy to prepare and easy to digest, and babies just love them in any food combination because of their sweet taste. When making your own home made baby food with apples remember they can be prepared in different ways to provide alternative textures and tastes. Apples can be baked or steamed, and they can even be mixed with spices such as nutmeg or cinnamon. In dinner meals apple is great mixed with pork, and I've even had it successfully with turkey and lamb.

Little Mashies reusable food pouch reviews

Great Product !
POSTED BY CARLIE
Ticks all the boxes... firstly, the ziplock is SUPER strong, something I have been failed by in the past with similar items. It's a good size for toddler yoghurts etc, and its bright green appearance and 'little mashie' makes it pretty cool :) ! Thanks!

My kids love them
POSTED BY A CUSTOMER
My first time at buying re-usable pouches and they are great. A good size and easy to clean. I love knowing that I've saved money making my own healthy food/ yoghurt and am making it fun for the kids to eat!! They don't ask for the pre-packaged pouches any more at the shops because we have our own :) Thanks Little Mashies.

Fantastic Product
